German Uniforms
The German Waffenrock (uniform) evolved a great deal to the Feldgrau (field grey) used in WWI. This was worn by most foot units and some cavalry units as well. Different ranks wore different types of these uniforms.

The Preußen Kürassier & Sachsen Schweres Reiter (Prussia and Saxony Cuirassier Heavy Rider). This uniform was used from 1843-1914. The tunic can be traced back to 1803 when a yellow-white Kollet (a waist-length jacket with tails) made from boiled wool was introduced. However, light blue tunics were worn as well. Also worn was a leather helmet with gold fittings (Kaisers Bunker).

The Husaren (Light Cavalry) wore a colorful uniform which first appeared in 1721. This is when the blue Kollet with rows of braiding was first seen. The Pelzmütze (fur cap) seen in the picture to the left was made of bear fur or opossum fur (Kaisers Bunker).

The new German field-gray uniform known as the M1907/10 Feldrock was introduced in February of 1910. This uniform was originally intended only for field use while the old uniforms were intended for all other occasions. The Feldrock was made of heavy wool Tuch which was a green-gray color. It was piped in regiment uniform colors around the bottom of the color, cuffs and flaps, and the front fly.
